Well here we are in 2024 and I’m feeling very guilty about neglecting my ‘Latest News’ page for the last few months. So here’s a summary of the Dire Straits Experience travels.

The band continued with various shows in Europe including an 18 date tour in the Netherlands and France in November. Sadly our Israel tour scheduled for mid October was postponed due to horrific conflict situation out there.

Already 2024 is looking busy kicking off with shows in Finland and Zagreb this month. March includes Czech, Austria. Slovakia and Sweden.

I’m glad to say the popularity of the band continues to grow. Audiences are ever more enthusiastic and varied in age ranges. We’re often so surprised to see younger people at our gigs mouthing the words to these classic songs. A testament to the long lasting quality of Mr Knopfler’s genius.

It has been awhile since my last update but I’m glad to say this is not because of a lack work. On the contrary, life is definitely getting busier again, especially with the gigs I’m pleased to say.

From May onwards The Dire Straits Experience have continued to see their schedule get fuller. There was a short trip to France with 3 shows in Rouen, Caen and Angers. We visited Madeira in June. I took a two week holiday break from mid July only to return in August with more gigs in Majorca, Switzerland and Germany. The big tour is coming up in September  with 14 shows in France starting in Provence and finishing in Toulouse.

It was a pleasure to finally have a mini tour of 4 gigs with The Dire Straits Experience in Israel.  A very welcome October journey to the sun staying in the beautiful Sheraton hotel on the Tel Aviv beach. Understandably no one is taking any chances with the Covid situation which meant no less than 5 separate PCR tests over the space of our visit. But we had wonderfully enthusiastic audiences every night and some amazing food. That’s it now for the band until January when we’ll be visiting Finland. But nice to experience a glimpse of normality after some very tough times for all.

What a great way to finish the year with 12 gigs in just over 2 weeks covering Belgium, Holland and France. As per usual, great audiences and great venues. That just about wraps it up for 2019 - a very busy year for the Dire Straits Experience although we are awaiting confirmation of a possible New Years Eve Gig in Bucharest. The photo attached is of myself and Sax player extraordinaire, Chris White, who played with the original Dire Straits back in the 80s. It's taken by an amazing photographer, Jo Sudau, who has followed the band from venue to venue getting some terrific shots.

It has been a very busy time with the Dire Straits Experience having just returned from a 3 show tour in Finland. With less than a day to rest in the UK we then left for South Africa having 2 shows planned in Mozambique, one in Pretoria outside of Johannesburg and then on to the French owned Réunion Island. The reaction and sheer numbers in the audiences continues to reaffirm just how far-reaching Dire Straits music was and continues to be. With age ranges from teens to 70 plus it’s clear the music strikes a universal chord with many.

Despite the Summer lull in DSE gigs thanks to two weather-related last-minute cancellations, we were happy to appear at the Henley Rewind Festival on August 17th. Sadly only a 40 minute appearance for us due to so many artists on the bill, but enough to keep us in trim for the forthcoming September gigs where we will be appearing in Germany, Switzerland and Israel. Come October we have gigs in Finland and Mozambique and November includes a 12 date tour in Belgium, France and the Netherlands.

The Dire Straits Experience continues with their very busy schedule this Summer. Since the end of June we’ve been to Avoine and Istres in France. Last weekend we had gig in Croatia returning the next day to Heathrow and getting straight onto a sleeper touring bus that took us overnight to the Rewind Festival in Perth in Scotland. Two more Rewind festivals remain this Summer - Macclesfield on the 3rd August and Henley on the 17th. I’m pleased to say the last couple of weeks in August will be a chance to get away with the family for a little break before the Autumn / Winter schedule starts

Other than a one-off gig in Lunen in Germany, the Dire Straits Experience will be touring the Netherlands with 7 gigs from the 15th through to the 24th May. Peter Boone, Dutch promoter and personal fan of the band has supported their tours now for a good few years and continues to fill out concert halls across the country.

And so the gigs go on for the Dire Straits Experience.  From Budapest in early April to Russia a week later. Three gigs covering Moscow, Ufa and Yekateringberg. One unexpected mode of transport was the overnight sleeper train to Ufa. I even managed to bump into some old mates in Red Square !  And then a week ago we had a one off gig on the Azores - a beautiful collection of Islands right out in the North Atlantic. Coming up soon we leave for two weeks touring the Netherlands with eight gigs.  June will be quiet on the DSE front, which is just well as Ill be continuing with a series of Ministry of Sound gigs with the concert promoter Raymond Gubbay.
